1 July 2015 – Lucid Research, a specialist provider of assessments for children with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND), will form part of assessment publisher, GL Assessment. The combination of assessments from Lucid and GL Assessment will provide schools with a complete SEND assessment package that includes assessments for dyslexia, visual stress, memory, reading and cognitive development.
Lucid provides a suite of highly reliable, digital assessments for use by SENCOs in primary, secondary and special schools. GL Assessment aims to combine its assessments of speech and language, reading, cognitive ability, literacy and numeracy with Lucid’s respected portfolio to offer a broad portfolio of SEND assessments for all ages.
Greg Watson, Chief Executive of GL Assessment, said: “Lucid’s SEND assessments are a natural complement to our existing broad portfolio. The thousands of schools in the UK and overseas who are already familiar with our suite of assessments covering cognitive ability, subject progress and pupil engagement will now have access to a first-class set of SEND diagnostic assessments as well. I am looking forward to working with the Lucid team, including its founders, to develop their assessments further and make them even more accessible to schools in the UK and abroad.”
Kevin Thomas, one of Lucid’s founders, said: “We’re proud of what we’ve built at Lucid and the contribution we’ve made to identifying and supporting so many children and adults with special educational needs and disabilities. We’re absolutely delighted that GL Assessment is now going to invest in our assessments and bring them to a wider audience than we have been able to reach, both at home and internationally.”
Founded 20 years ago, Lucid works closely with universities and leading educational and psychological practitioners to ensure the reliability and validity of its assessment tools. The company is based in Beverley, Yorkshire.
