Fully standardised, the Hospital Anxiety & Depression Scale (HADS) detects and assesses mild degrees of mood disorder, anxiety and depression in adults. It consists of a brief questionnaire which is easy to score and simple to interpret.
Used in both hospital and community settings as a psychological screening tool, this valid and reliable self-rating symptom assessment has a direct bearing on whether a case is deemed clinically significant and is undertaken by patients with illness and in the general population.
The five-minute self-administered test is suitable for use by a range of clinical professionals as well as researchers assessing emotional disorders in adults. Used internationally, HADS is now available in 115 languages.
One questionnaire comprising 14 questions (seven each for anxiety and depression) aids identification of both disorders, whilst giving a separate score for each.
