British Spelling Test Series

The British Spelling Test Series assesses spelling at word, sentence and continuous writing level, using a wide mix of questions and tasks that test your pupils’ ability to spell in different contexts. The series tests the spelling of words which are generally within pupils’ written vocabulary and reflect curriculum demands appropriate to their age group.

The series contains four tests, each covering a range of year groups. Tests are based on classroom and teaching activities that are carefully tailored to the age of your pupils, with attractive full-colour illustrations to appeal to younger learners, and group tasks that sometimes require children to draw on their own vocabulary.

Each test has a teacher guide explaining how to administer, mark and score the test, as well as how to use conversion tables to obtain standardised scores and spelling ages. Guidance is also given on assessing the severity of spelling problems when pupils perform poorly.
